Built from Nairobi, for the world

Why location no longer limits talent, and what it really takes to build a global brand from anywhere.

I'm writing this from Nairobi. My clients are in London, and increasingly everywhere else. Ten years ago, that sentence would have sounded unlikely. Today it's ordinary, and I think a lot of people still underestimate what it means.

Talent has always been everywhere

I was born in Murang'a County and started out with a background in electrical and electronics engineering. I taught myself full-stack development and digital marketing because the tools were available and nobody could stop me from learning. What was missing was never ability. It was visibility.

A skilled person in Nairobi, Lagos, Accra or Kampala has always been able to do world-class work. What they couldn't easily do was be found, trusted and chosen by someone on the other side of the world.

What changed

  • Tools became equal. The same design, development and AI tools are available in Nairobi and New York.
  • Work became remote. Clients now expect video calls and shared documents, not office visits.
  • Discovery became digital. People find experts through search, social and increasingly AI, where location matters far less than clarity.

What still matters

Being global doesn't happen by accident. Clients anywhere need to understand what you do, trust that you'll deliver, and find it easy to work with you across time zones. That comes down to the same things it always has: clear positioning, visible proof, reliable communication and a professional digital presence.

Location used to be a limit. Now it's just a detail in your story.

Why I share this

I work with many young African creatives and professionals who are exceptionally talented and completely invisible online. Part of this channel is showing what's possible, openly, with the real work and real numbers. If one person watching decides to build their own global brand from wherever they are, that's worth it.

And if you're a client somewhere else in the world wondering whether it matters where your consultant is based: judge the work, the clarity and the results. That's what I'd want you to do.
