One idea, every platform: how I publish a week of content from a single video

The repurposing engine I use to show up on YouTube, LinkedIn, X and email without burning out.

When I decided to show up properly online, I wanted everything: a YouTube channel, a newsletter, articles, LinkedIn, X, short videos. The honest problem was time. I run client work, lead digital for two organisations and mentor young creatives. I don't have five spare days a week for content.

So I stopped thinking about platforms and started thinking about one idea per week. Here's the engine.

Start with one pillar

Every week I make one pillar piece: a YouTube video of about ten minutes on a single idea. Video is the richest format. It has my voice, my face and my thinking in full, and everything else can be cut from it.

The rule is simple: one idea, one question, one takeaway. If I can't say what the video is about in a sentence, it isn't ready to record.

Then let it travel

From that one video, the week fills itself:

  • The essay. The transcript, cleaned up and expanded into an article on my own site. This is the piece search engines and AI assistants find and quote.
  • The newsletter. The core idea, rewritten as a short personal email with one practical thing to try.
  • Short clips. Three to five of the strongest moments, cut vertically for YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram.
  • LinkedIn posts. Two or three posts, each taking one point from the video and expanding it with a story or example.
  • An X thread. The argument compressed into a thread, with the video linked at the end.

Where AI fits

AI does the heavy lifting on transformation, not on thinking. I use it to transcribe, to draft the essay from my transcript, to find the best clip moments, and to adapt tone for each platform. Then I edit everything, because the value is in my judgement and my examples. AI that writes from nothing sounds like everyone else. AI that reshapes your own thinking sounds like you, faster.

The weekly rhythm

Monday I plan the idea and outline. Tuesday I record and publish the video. Wednesday the essay and LinkedIn go out. Thursday the newsletter. Friday the clips and thread, plus a look at what worked.

That's roughly six to eight hours a week for a presence on six platforms.

Consistency beats volume. One good idea a week, shipped for a year, is fifty-two pieces of proof.

If you're an expert wondering how to be everywhere without it taking over your life, don't start with more platforms. Start with one idea, and let it travel.
